Liverpool are reportedly interested in signing Paris Saint-Germain and France superstar Kylian Mbappe this summer, in what would be a sensational piece of business.
The attacker is undoubtedly one of the world’s best players currently, if not the best of the lot, having been an unstoppable force for a number of years now.
Not only has Mbappe scored 212 and registered 98 assists in 260 appearances for PSG, but he has also won the 2018 World Cup with France, not to mention netting a hat-trick in the 2022 final defeat to Argentina.
It looks as though the 24-year-old could be leaving his current club in the summer transfer window, however, having decided not to renew his contract beyond next summer’s expiry date.
While Real Madrid appear to be the favourites to snap up the French star, a fresh update suggests that Liverpool are in the mix as well.
According to Marca, Jurgen Klopp is keen on the idea of bringing Mbappe to Anfield this summer, in what would be a record-breaking transfer for the Reds. A whopping fee of €330m (£235m) is the amount mooted.
Our thoughts on Liverpool’s potential move for Mbappe…
The idea of Mbappe in a Liverpool shirt is beyond exciting, considering he is possibly the finest player of his generation and someone who will surely be a future Ballon d’Or winner.
At 24, he still has so much of his career ahead of him and he would be a game-changing signing who could suddenly make the Reds a far greater force than they already are.
That being said, it is extremely hard to see Liverpool actually completing a move for Mbappe, with the Merseysiders simply not having the funds to bring him in, unless they were to sell Mohamed Salah, especially with more midfield additions still needed.
Not only that, but last season’s fifth-place finish in the Premier League means that he would be joining a team who can’t offer him Champions League football, which surely works hugely against them.
It is a lovely thought, with Mbappe a truly special footballer who can go on to reach even greater heights, but him joining Madrid is far more logical, if he doesn’t end up signing an extension with PSG.
