Ronald Araujo has completed his loan move to Liverpool from Barcelona for the 2026/27 season and is bullish about being a star in the Premier League.
The Uruguayan joined the Reds on Monday evening, discussing his excitement about moving from one of the biggest football clubs in the world to another:
“I can’t wait to get started. I’m very, very happy. I’m excited to be here at this massive club with lots of history. I’m excited to meet my teammates, excited to get started playing, and I’m very motivated and really up for getting going.”
Araujo also spoke about the test of the Premier League, but rather than showing it too much respect, he made it clear that he believes he can thrive in it:
“No doubt at all. I think my attributes will suit this league down to the ground. I think the style of play in the English league should be perfect for my qualities as a player. It’s a league I’ve wanted to play in for a long time. It’s very, very competitive and some say – and why not? – it’s the best league in the world. So, I’m full of excitement, I’m full of hope, really wanting to get started, for sure.”

Araujo has the potential to be a fantastic signing for Liverpool, with the 27-year-old capable of performing at a world-class level when he is on his game, hence being named Barcelona captain at one point.
But a little like Ibrahima Konate, the Uruguay international can also make errors and switch off during matches, which is why he hasn’t yet reached his vast potential. Consistency is the key with him.
Hopefully, Andoni Iraola will get the very best out of Araujo, and he will become a superb centre-back partner for Virgil van Dijk from the off this season. He has so many attributes to do just that, from aerial dominance to pace.
The chance to rebuild his career will surely be an added motivation for the centre-back, who may be eyeing up a permanent move to Liverpool next summer, should he do enough to show he is worth persevering with.
