Germany and Real Madrid legend Toni Kroos has waxed lyrical over Liverpool signing Florian Wirtz, describing him as a “very special player.”
Wirtz joined the Reds in a British record £116m move earlier this summer, with the 22-year-old feeling like a game-changing addition.
Seen as one of the best attacking players in the world, the German could turn Liverpool into an even greater force, as they look to defend their Premier League title and also win the Champions League.
Speaking about Wirtz [via Liverpool World], former Madrid midfielder Kroos heaped praise on Wirtz, showing exactly why Reds supporters should be so excited about him:
“You’re a very special player, on so many levels. When I first saw you play football, I immediately noticed that you have more than just that certain something. Your sense of moving in the right spaces, your first touch, your final pass, and even your finishing—everything is special. And then there’s your mentality! You have the conviction in your own qualities, and you radiate that.
“You don’t take any nonsense—you carry a small but incredibly important portion of arrogance within you, which I hope you never let go of. In my opinion, you’ve done everything right by moving to Liverpool FC, and it’s underpinning your mindset and conviction.”
Liverpool’s best signing since Alisson?
It is easy for football fans to get carried away about new signings, with excitement in the air when they arrive, but the hype feels fully justified with Wirtz.
At just 22, the Germany international is the same age as Harvey Elliott, but he already looks such a complete all-round footballer, possessing elite creativity on the ball, but also a great work ethic out of possession.
The biggest potential risk with Wirtz is injury problems, with a serious fitness setback never out of the question, but if he avoids that, he can become Liverpool’s most influential signing since Alisson in the summer of 2018.
The Brazilian, Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk have been the poster boys of this great era at Anfield, but given his ability, Wirtz can be the next superstar on Merseyside.
