Liverpool are still pushing to complete the signing of Real Madrid midfielder Eduardo Camavinga this summer, according to a fresh transfer report.

A new central midfielder feels essential for the Reds come the end of the season, with Alexis Mac Allister looking a long way from his best this season, especially in terms of pace.

Curtis Jones also appears to have fallen out of favour under Arne Slot, and while there is no guarantee that the latter will stay on as head coach for too much longer, the Englishman could also move on if he isn’t seen as a regular starter moving forward.

Camavinga has been linked with a move to Liverpool in recent months, and now Football Insider report that Madrid are “willing to listen to offers in excess of the £43m mark” for the Frenchman.

The Reds are “eyeing up a potential deal” in the upcoming window and are “long-term admirers of his ability”, with several Premier League teams keen, due to him “having the ideal skillset for the English game.”

Is Eduardo Camavinga the solution in Liverpool’s midfield?

It seems strange that Madrid don’t appear to value Camavinga too highly, considering he is a talented and versatile player who has already won two Champions League titles, also being lauded by former Rennes sporting director Florian Maurice:

“He is a fantastic player. What he did so young at Rennes was incredible. And what he is doing right now at a club the size of Real Madrid is incredible. He’s a French international, he’s a formidable player and person.”

Camavinga is still only 23 years of age, so would represent a long-term signing for Liverpool, and he would bring the legs to the midfield that have been so sorely lacking in Mac Allister currently.

He is both a talented technical footballer and a battler out of possession, completing 92.4% of his passes and averaging 2.2 tackles per game in the Champions League this season.

The fact that Liverpool could even sign him for around £43m is an added bonus, with his price tag more than that at times in the past, and there is very little not to like about the Reds adding him to their squad ahead of next season.
