Liverpool are reportedly keeping a very close eye on Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak but they will need to compete with Arsenal who are also investigating a move to sign him in the summer transfer window.

The 25-year-old is truly coming into his own now and while it was good news for Liverpool that Isak wasn’t fit to play at Anfield on Wednesday, there is a chance we could see him at Anfield all next season if reports prove true.

Recently, Football Insider claimed that Liverpool will “will try to tempt” Newcastle to sell Isak but the idea that the Magpies would accept Darwin Nunez as makeweight has already been dismissed.

Nunez has been in poor form all season and after last season ended with many fans on the fence over his future, this season has all but made certain that he will leave. It’s a real pity because it’s clear he loves the club and is very talented, but it just hasn’t worked out so far.

26 goal involvements to Nunez’s 11.

Liverpool have a “growing interest” in Isak

The Swede will have plenty of clubs to choose from if he is indeed planning on leave St. James’ Park this summer. After Erling Haaland, Isak is likely the best no.9 in England at the moment and it would appear Liverpool want him at Anfield.

Reporting for The Times, journalist Martin Hardy shared an update on the situation with it now looking as though a tussle between Liverpool and Arsenal is being set up for the summer.

Hardy said: “Isak has a deal at St James’ Park until 2028. Eddie Howe described contract talks with Isak as a “complex situation” late last year.

“He is earning about £140,000 a week, high for Newcastle, low for his growing status.

“Arsenal have long been mentioned as suitors but Liverpool too are said to have a growing interest.”

Just imagine Isak and Salah in a team together…

This season, Mohamed Salah is single-handedly dragging Liverpool to the Premier League title. On Wednesday, he grabbed his 17th league assist of the campaign to take his side 13 points clear of stragglers Arsenal.

All in all, Salah has 42 goals and assists in the league (52 in all comps) and has been directly responsible for 63.6% of all of Liverpool’s goals in the Premier League.

Adding Isak to the mix would be simply incredible. To date, Salah has not played with a world class traditional no.9 at Liverpool. The last time he was paired with a top no.9 at Roma when he played with Edin Dzeko.

That season, Salah got 19 goals and 14 assists while Dzeko got 39 goals and 14 assists. If Isak joins Liverpool, expect similar numbers from him and Salah next season.
