Liverpool transfer target Yan Diomande has refused to play down talk of a summer exit from RB Leipzig, acting as a boost for the Reds.

The 19-year-old has been linked with Liverpool many times in recent months, potentially standing out as the leading choice to be Mohamed Salah’s successor on the right wing.

The Reds arguably need a wide man on either flank, with Paris Saint-Germain ace Bradley Barcola a possible upgrade on the Cody Gakpo on the left-hand side.

Now, speaking to reporters [via This Is Anfield], Diomande has admitted that he hasn’t yet decided what the future holds, but certainly hasn’t said he is staying at Leipzig beyond the summer:

“I don’t think about this kind of thing because I’m trying to be focused on the pitch and because my job is playing football, so [his representatives] gonna take care of everything outside of the pitch,” he said of the transfer interest.

“This kind of things give me a lot of motivation to see a lot of clubs speaking about you and stuff like this, but I’m focused. It’s really easy when you have a good team around you. You just have to work and they’re gonna take care of everything, because the only thing I can control is playing football.”

“The World Cup is next and after that you never know what can happen.”

Would it be a surprise if Liverpool don’t sign Yan Diomande?

Despite the level of interest in Diomande, it does feel like Liverpool are among the leading contenders to snap him up, and these new comments are a boost for them.

The Ivory Coast international is a huge talent who can play on both wings and excel with both feet, also being lauded by former Reds midfielder Didi Hamann earlier this season:

“What he’s doing is truly world-class. They’ve signed an absolute gem. He’s unstoppable. We’ll [Germany] have to come up with something for the World Cup.”

It would arguably be a surprise if Diomande wasn’t a Liverpool player come the start of next season, and while he may take time to get used to the Premier League, he has everything in his locker to become a superstar in the division.
