Liverpool will be “fuming” at Bayern Munich’s approach for star winger Rio Ngumoha, according to a new claim from former scout Mick Brown.
Ngumoha was one of the few positives from a dire season for the Reds, standing out with youthful exuberance and showing why he is such a highly-rated talent.
Bayern Munich recently showed their interest in the 17-year-old, making a move for him, but Liverpool have made it clear that the Englishman is going nowhere.
Speaking to Football Insider, Brown said that the Merseysiders won’t be amused by Bayern’s antics, in terms of how they went about trying to sign Ngumoha:
“Liverpool will be doing everything in their power to stop Ngumoha leaving. They’ve already lost Salah, and this young lad has come into the team and made a splash, he’s obviously got great talent, and they rate him very highly. So they need look no further than the options they’ve already got available, because he already looks like he’s ready to come in and play a regular part in the side.
“I was always under the impression that approaching players without the club’s knowledge was illegal, but it always seems to happen and to be allowed to happen. Of course, these things happen, but it’s not usually as out in the open as this has been, and that’s not going to go down well.
“I have no doubt Liverpool will be fuming, because their best talents are being approached by clubs like Bayern Munich and they have no knowledge of it. Liverpool are not going to let that happen, they’re not going to let him go, and especially not to Bayern Munich now that this has happened.”
Liverpool cannot afford to sell Rio Ngumoha at any cost
Ngumoha has the world at his feet, so the idea of Liverpool even contemplating selling him so early in his career is ludicrous, and Bayern shouldn’t be surprised by their response.
The teenager has the potential to be the Reds’ next great youngster, assuming he remains focused, and he will hopefully spend most of his career at Anfield.
Ngumoha is still learning, so Andoni Iraola shouldn’t see him as a key starter yet, but he is now a genuinely strong squad option, and over time there is every chance that he becomes one of the first names on the team sheet.
He won Man of the Match on his England debut against New Zealand last weekend, and it is going to be so exciting to see how he fares for Liverpool and the Three Lions as the years pass.
