Liverpool are set to lose Trent Alexander-Arnold to Real Madrid on a Bosman transfer but they have the bittersweet chance to beat the La Liga outfit to Dean Huijsen.

The 19-year-old has been among the best centre-backs in the Premier League this season and so it is fitting that the best side in England is chasing after him.

Arne Slot has shocked every journalist and pundit by placing himself within touching distance of a first Premier League title in his very first season in charge. The march to the title has, however, revealed a need to invest in central defence this summer to ensure the Reds can defend their title.

Huijsen could be the man for Slot to sign to bolster the backline but there is a lot of competition for his signature, according to claims from Fabrizio Romano.

Although Dean Huijsen would join Real Madrid, they are hesitating over signing a new centre-back

Liverpool need to capitalise on Real Madrid’s hesitance to sign a new centre-back this summer and make Bournemouth’s prodigy their own by triggering his £50m release clause.

Speaking via his YouTube channel, Romano said: “Dean Huijsen would be very open to a move to Real Madrid.

But this depends on Real Madrid, and as of today in April, Real Madrid have still not decided whether they want to invest on a centre-back this summer or continue with the centre-backs they have and invest on a centre-back in summer 2026.

Bayern Munich, Chelsea and Arsenal are also interested but only time will tell where the Spanish centre-back takes his talents when the summer transfer window opens in June.

Romano continued, adding that the “timing” of this deal will be key.

Huijsen can’t wait forever, and this is why Premier League clubs are working on this deal,” he said. “I already told you in January about Liverpool, about Chelsea, about Arsenal. All these clubs are interested.

“Bayern also have been calling for weeks for Huijsen, and they have to decide whether they want to invest big money or not.

“But now Premier League clubs are really, really pushing, and so the timing will be an important factor in this story. Dean Huijsen is going to explore all the options in the next days and weeks in order to understand what’s the best opportunity for him.”
