Journalist Jan Aage Fjortoft has dropped a promising Liverpool transfer update, claiming one player now wants to join the Reds this summer.
The Premier League champions have been strongly linked with moves for both Hugo Ekitike and Alexander Isak this summer, as they tussle with Newcastle United.
Speaking on ESPN FC [via The Boot Room], Fjortoft claimed that Eintracht Frankfurt ace would prefer to play for Liverpool over the Magpies:
“What I do hear is that Ekitike is not for sale, but we know the strategy of Eintracht Frankfurt. They signed Muani to PSG for €95+5 million, they sold Marmoush to Manchester City for €80 million. His (Ekitike’s) price tag now is €100 million. He is being the joker in the Liverpool-Newcastle thing.
“If Liverpool can’t get Isak, maybe they will go for Ekitike. What I do understand is that the player prefers to play for Liverpool.
“But, he is very relaxed because he knows he can play in the Champions League with Eintracht Frankfurt, and Eintracht Frankfurt, for the first time in a long, long time, they don’t have to sell because they have already done that with Champions League qualification and the sales of Marmoush and Muani. But I can tell you, Ekitike prefers Liverpool Football Club.”
Isak still the dream choice for Liverpool
Ekitike is a superb young player with a big future in the game, so Liverpool signing him would be exciting, as they look to bring in a high-class No.9 this summer.
That said, Isak should still be considered the best possible option to come in, with the 25-year-old already one of the best strikers in the world, and someone who has shown he can excel in the Premier League.
Newcastle are understandably holding firm and could even reject a £120m offer for the Swede, but they also want Ekitike, and could ultimately be forced to sell Isak to Liverpool in order to get him.
At the moment, lots of guess work is involved, but it does feel like the Reds want Isak and consider Ekitike a strong backup option if the Magpies simply prove to be too stubborn.
