Liverpool centre-back Ibrahima Konate has silenced those downplaying the Reds’ imminent Premier League title success, saying it doesn’t bother him and his teammates.

Arne Slot’s side are now only two wins away from being crowned champions and they could even win the title at Leicester City on Sunday.

That depends if Arsenal lose away to Ipswich Town earlier in the day, which admittedly feels unlikely.

Speaking to Sky Sports [via This Is Anfield], Konate produced a great response to those in the media who aren’t giving enough credit for Liverpool’s success, saying very few predicted it back in August.

“If you ask every player or every fan what you will pick [out of] play for every trophy but you don’t know what you will get at the end of the season or maybe a chance to win the Premier League, I think all of them would say, ‘yes, maybe a chance to win the Premier League’.

“We don’t have to listen to media and think that because we didn’t win the FA Cup, the Carabao Cup or we are out of the Champions League that we have a bad season. No, nobody expected us to be where we are today. We just have to do everything and give everything every game until the end of the season, game after game, and if we achieve something special, everyone will be very happy.”

Nothing but bitterness towards Liverpool

Frankly, anyone trying to downplay Liverpool winning the title is likely to be bitter about it, perhaps having rival clubs bias from their playing days, or similar.

The Reds are thirteen points clear of Arsenal and have comprehensively outplayed everyone in the league, and they will be fully deserving of a memorable triumph.

Yes, Manchester City have dropped off and Arsenal have had injuries, but the Premier League has never been stronger, in terms of the middle-ranked teams being hard to overcome.

Perhaps Liverpool’s Champions League elimination and EFL Cup final defeat have masked some critics’ opinions of this Reds team, but that just happened to be one bad week when their legs were tiring.

A point tally in the late 80s or even early 90s is going to be achieved this season, and Slot’s side will deserve every accolade that comes their way.
