Liverpool are interested in signing Feyenoord winger Igor Paixao in the summer transfer window, according to a fresh update regarding the Reds’ upcoming business.

It would be a big surprise if Arne Slot didn’t add to his attack when this season comes to an end, even though it looks like Premier League glory is coming his side’s way.

There are increasing doubts over the futures of Diogo Jota and Darwin Nunez, with a superior striker required to come in and be an upgrade.

Jota is showing signs of injuries catching up with him, while Nunez is still a divisive figure who hasn’t developed nearly enough in three seasons at Anfield.

Meanwhile, Luis Diaz has been linked with a move away with summer, with a switch to Barcelona mooted, so additions out wide could also be needed.

According to Caught Offside, Liverpool “could soon step up” their efforts to sign Paixao at the end of the season after being given “glowing scout reports” on him.

The 24-year-old is also wanted by Arsenal, with the Premier League’s current two best teams potentially about to lock horns for his signature.

A strong attacking option for Liverpool

Paixao has caught the eye with his performances for Feyenoord this season, scoring 12 goals and registering nine assists in the Eredivisie, highlighting the end product in his armoury.

He also has two goals and four assists to his name in the Champions League, while football talent scout Jacek Kulig has described him as an “explosive” player, adding that “pace, acceleration, dynamism, dribbling, ball control, flair” and “agility” are all strong points in his game.

Paixao may not be as world-renowned as some of the attacking players being linked with Liverpool recently, but that’s not to say he couldn’t be a great option.

The Brazilian is still a relatively young player with plenty of time to develop, and the fact that he played under Slot during the Reds head coach’s time in charge there means that they already know each other well.

If Diaz stays, it does lessen the need for a left winger, with Cody Gakpo already a great option there, but there are some who feel that the Colombian can be improved upon.
