Liverpool have now been joined by another club in the race to sign Crystal Palace captain Marc Guehi, with the Reds still keen on snapping him up.
Missing out on Guehi was a huge disappointment for Arne Slot, with the England international failing to complete a move on deadline day, despite agreeing a transfer and completing a medical.
Liverpool have looked shaky at the back throughout this season, with Virgil van Dijk holding the defence together at times, and not signing the Palace ace could ultimately prove key in the Premier League title race.
The hope is that Guehi remains a transfer target moving forward for the Reds, though, and a new update suggests that is the case, even though the number of clubs interested is growing all the time.
Writing on X, Sky Sports journalist Florian Plettenberg claimed that Bayern Munich have entered the race to sign the 25-year-old in 2026, with Liverpool also still pushing hard:
“FC Bayern are already looking concretely at Marc Guehi. Max Eberl is a big admirer, and initial talks with the player’s representatives have already taken place. Bayern are interested in a free transfer in 2026, but that depends on what happens with Upamecano/Kim. There is competition: Liverpool and Barcelona are seriously involved, and Real Madrid are also in the race.”
Will Liverpool still be No.1 in Guehi’s mind?
Guehi still stands out as the best possible centre-back signing for Liverpool next year, with a move at the end of the season feeling more likely than a January transfer.
The Palace skipper is such an impressive defender, also assisting in the recent 2-1 win over the Reds at Selhurst Park, and Lee Carsley heaped praise on him during their time working together on England duty:
“His maturity [is clear] not only on the pitch but off the pitch. The fact that Marc is so calm and composed next to them [the debutants Tino Livramento and Harwood-Bellis] is brilliant.”
Hopefully, Liverpool are still the club that Guehi wants to join, having made it clear that it was his preference in the summer, but the lure of the likes of Bayern, Barcelona and Real Madrid is also clear.
