Liverpool have made an approach to Newcastle United to sign Alexander Isak as the Reds reveal their cards.

For the last few months, the constant line from reporters regarding Isak has been that Newcastle don’t want to sell but Liverpool are now testing that resolve.

A key figure in the dynamic at hand is Hugo Ekitike. Both Liverpool and Newcastle are interested in signing while the Reds are only interested him as an alternative to Ekitike.

Reports are breaking today that Liverpool have officially informed Newcastle that they want to sign Isak.

According to David Ornstein and the Athletic, Liverpool make approach to sign Alexander Isak from Newcastle United. LFC say no formal bid + well aware NUFC stance has always been: not for sale.

“But communicated interest in deal for 25yo Sweden international worth in region of £120m.”

Romano reports that Liverpool have made contact to express their intent to lodge a “world record bid” for Isak and will enter the Ekitike race if they are unsuccessful with Isak.

Ben Jacobs reports the same, saying that Liverpool will “discreetly” pivot to Ekitike if they door to signing Isak remains shut.

He reports: “If Liverpool discover in the next few days/weeks that the door for Alexander Isak is 100% shut, they will pivot to Hugo Ekitike discreetly.”

Meanwhile, Chris Waugh – Newcastle United correspondent for the Athletic, reports that it will be curious to see how Isak himself reacts to Liverpool’s approach to the Magpies.

He says: “Newcastle never expected Isak to push to leave but, should he be attracted by the prospect of moving to Anfield, perhaps that changes now an approach has been made.”

Signing Isak would propel Liverpool from one of the best to challenging PSG for their Champions League crown

Last season, Liverpool did their best to stop PSG advancing beyond them to the Champions League semi-finals but ultimately they were only able to hold until penalties.

However, Arne Slot will work wonders with a world class striker like Isak in addition to already having the best player in England in Mohamed Salah not to mention Florian Wirtz.
