Liverpool are reportedly among the clubs who are keen on completing the signing of Sporting CP striker Luis Suarez in the summer transfer window.

It will be interesting to see who the Reds look to sign at the end of the season, with reinforcements required at centre-back and in midfield, for starters.

Liverpool could even look to bolster their attacking options, with Mohamed Salah and Cody Gakpo failing to fire in 2025/26, and Alexander Isak suffering a serious injury that has kept him out since before Christmas.

Now, according to a report from Spain [via Caught Offside], the Premier League champions are eyeing a summer move for Sporting star Suarez, who is enjoying a superb season, scoring 32 goals in all competitions.

Liverpool are willing to trigger the £69.1m release clause in the 28-year-old’s contract, potentially see him as great competition for Isak and Hugo Ekitike moving forward.

Do Liverpool need to sign Luis Suarez this summer?

Suarez is clearly a fantastic player, with the Colombian filling the void left by Viktor Gyokeres superbly at Sporting this season after his move to Arsenal, helping the Portuguese giants reach the Champions League quarter-finals.

He has also been hailed by Cristiano Ronaldo in the recent past, which is no mean feat, with the footballing great saying: “He’s an excellent striker” – someone who can keep the club competitive and push forward.”

While Suarez’s pedigree is undeniable, there is an argument to say that Liverpool should be looking to use their summer transfer funds on more pressing positions.

The Reds already have Isak and Ekitike as centre forwards, so keeping them and Suarez happy would be difficult, with the former hopefully finding top form and fitness next season after a slow start to life at Anfield.

The Colombia international is also now 28, so there is a risk that Liverpool may spend a lot of money on a player who could suddenly drift past his peak sooner rather than later.

Reds supporters are unlikely to complain too much if Suarez does join in the summer, giving the team even more firepower, but it is a transfer that doesn’t make sense for too many reasons.
