Liverpool are reportedly interested in completing the signing of a £70m-rated Premier League player in 2026, according to a new transfer update.

The Reds were on the verge of snapping up Marc Guehi from Crystal Palace on deadline day, but the Eagles ended up putting their foot down and not allowing him to leave, due to a lack of a replacement coming in.

A new centre-back will be needed for Liverpool soon, with their depth in that area lacking slightly, should Virgil van Dijk or Ibrahima Konate get injured.

Not only that, but Konate continues to be linked with a move to Real Madrid next summer, should he fail to sign a new contract at Anfield. In fact, the Spanish giants are even reportedly eyeing a January switch for him.

Now, according to The Boy Hotspur, the Premier League champions are “closely monitoring” Tottenham defender Micky van de Ven, who has become one of Spurs’ most important players.

Van Dijk’s international teammate with the Netherlands is also wanted by the likes of Chelsea, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich, with the Dutchman valued at £70m by his current club.

An ideal Guehi alternative for Liverpool?

Van de Ven could be a brilliant signing for Liverpool, coming in as a long-term replacement for Van Dijk in the left-sided centre-back role.

The fact that the 24-year-old can also do a job at left-back is an added bonus, and Gary Neville lauded a stunning run he produced away to Manchester United last season:

“Absolutely brilliant from van de Ven. One of the best runs I’ve ever seen from a centre-back.  He drives through four Manchester United players. It’s amazing. Brilliant.”

Van de Ven has everything in his locker to be an excellent addition for Liverpool, whether it be blistering pace, quality on the ball or impressive leadership skills. At 24 years of age, his best years should also still be ahead of him, too.

For now, Guehi should still arguably be considered the priority, considering how much the Reds wanted him in the summer transfer window, but the Spurs ace feels like an ideal backup option if they fail to snap him up.
