A Liverpool player who Virgil van Dijk rates highly could potentially leave the club this summer, according to journalist Fabrizio Romano.

This summer promises to be one of the most fascinating at Anfield in a long time, with plenty of new signings expected, as well as outgoings.

Trent Alexander-Arnold has confirmed that he will depart at the end of the season, following 20 years at Liverpool, which means a new right-back could be called for, unless Arne Slot sees Conor Bradley as the solution there.

Meanwhile, a younger alternative to Andy Robertson and Kostas Tsimikas needs to arrive at left-back, while attacking reinforcements are required, too, especially a centre forward.

In terms of those who could depart alongside Alexander-Arnold in the summer, it looks as though an exit for Jarell Quansah isn’t out of the question.

That’s according to Romano, who said as much in his newsletter for Give Me Sport, even though Liverpool aren’t overly keen on selling him: “It’s a possibility. It’s not Liverpool trying to sell him but the player attracting interest with Newcastle and German clubs keen.”

Should Liverpool keep or sell Quansah?

Quansah has had a tough 2024/25 season, following an impressive breakthrough campaign last time around, summed up by scoring an own goal and conceding a penalty away to Chelsea last weekend, even though the incidents weren’t necessarily his fault.

The 22-year-old should arguably still be retained as a squad player for the Reds, given his potential, not to mention the fact that Van Dijk rates him highly, once saying:

“He’s been important. Every challenge that was thrown his way he dealt with. He was outstanding again. The sky is the limit. He just needs to stay humble and keep working hard and keep improving.”

If Quansah fails to kick on next season, Slot may have more of a decision to make, but for now, he should be considered a good fourth or fifth choice option, behind Van Dijk, Ibrahima Konate, Joe Gomez and potentially a new centre-back signing this summer.

Selling him now would be a risk, considering he has broken into the England setup and still has many years left in him, so he should be retained ahead of next season.
