Liverpool are interested in making a sensational move for Everton centre-back Jarrad Branthwaite, according to a new transfer update.

The Reds will need to look at signing a new central defender in the summer transfer window, with their options there not always strong, in terms of depth.

Virgil van Dijk has been colossal this season, as Ibrahima Konate when he has been fit, with the former isn’t getting any younger and the latter is injured too often season upon season.

Meanwhile, Joe Gomez is once again unavailable, proving to be injury-prone in his own right, and Jarell Quansah isn’t yet consistent enough to be a genuinely strong option.

Caught Offside, Liverpool will “rival” Manchester United for the signing of Branthwaite this summer, with Tottenham also in the mix to snap him up.

The Blues “want to secure” his future at the club, however, “amid growing interest from elsewhere”, and it goes without saying that they will surely only entertain massive offers for the Englishman.

Could signing Branthwaite really happen for Liverpool?

Liverpool signing Branthwaite would send shockwaves around the football world, considering he is one of their local rivals’ best players currently.

It would bring back memories of Nick Barmby’s controversial move to Anfield back in 2000, but in truth, it is so difficult to see Everton even contemplating the idea of letting him join the Reds.

The 22-year-old is a huge prospect, recently performing impressively in the 2-2 draw at home to Liverpool, in fairness, while Jamie Carragher has heaped praise on him, saying:

“Branthwaite has been outstanding. I think this lad is pretty special. He’s a big part of why Everton in my eyes have a good chance of staying up, him and his partnership with [James] Tarkowski.”

Should the unthinkable happen and Liverpool strike a deal for Branthwaite, it would be a fantastic piece of business, considering the Everton man may be at the heart of England’s defence for the next decade or so.

More realistically, though, the Reds need to look at other options instead, such as young Bournemouth centre-back Dean Huijsen, who has been linked with a move to the club currently.
