Brighton striker Joao Pedro would “want” to complete a move to Liverpool at the end of the season, according to former scout Mick Brown.
The 23-year-old has been a star performer for the Seagulls in 2024/25 to date, scoring seven goals and registering six assists in the Premier League, leading the line with real style.
Pedro’s performances have seen him linked with a move to a bigger club, and speaking to Football Insider, Brown talked up the idea of the Brazilian joining Liverpool in the summer window:
“If he’s given the chance to go to Liverpool, he’ll want to go. Knowing Brighton and the way they operate, they’ll want a massive fee for him. I think he’s certainly one Liverpool have been looking at, but I’m not convinced he’s the right man.
“You could put him in that team and he’d do a job, but I hear Liverpool are going to make a move for a top-class striker and goalscorer. They create so many chances that any striker playing in the team, for the most part, would do well. But they want a real top-level goalscorer because Nunez has been so inconsistent for them. They feel a real out-and-out forward would be just what they need to take them to the next level.”
Fantastic attacking option for Liverpool
Pedro could be exactly what Liverpool are looking for this summer, with Arne Slot likely to target a new centre forward when the summer arrives. Brighton manager Fabian Hurzeler has described him as a “great leader”, having captained his side earlier in the campaign.
At 23, he is still a young player but is now experienced enough to come straight in as a key man for the Reds, and his intelligence dropping deep and quality in the final third would make him a hugely exciting option.
Pedro has even proven himself in the Premier League, taking away that risk element of signing a player from abroad, so it is hard to find any negatives to Liverpool snapping him up.
There are doubts over the futures of Luis Diaz, Darwin Nunez and Diogo Jota at Anfield, with none arguably representing the long-term solution, and the Brighton ace should be at the top of the Reds’ list of potential replacements.
