One of Liverpool’s biggest Premier League rivals are now reportedly interested in signing a player who Arne Slot has lauded this summer.

In recent days, Ben Doak has been linked with a shock move to Everton, with the Reds’ local adversaries among a host of club eyeing him up.

Liverpool now have to weigh up whether they will retain the Scot’s services, with Richard Hughes set to make a big call over his future in the coming weeks.

Now, according to a new update from Empire of the Kop, Everton also want to sign Joe Gomez on top of Doak, with the 28-year-old wanted by as many as eight Premier League teams.

Newcastle United, Aston Villa, West Ham and Bournemouth are all mentioned, as are newly-promoted trio Leeds United, Burnley and Sunderland.

Should Liverpool allow Gomez to leave?

As is the case with Doak, Liverpool have a huge decision to make with two-time Premier League champion Gomez, with the centre-back now the longest-serving player at the club.

The Englishman is only a squad player, so a fresh challenge may appeal to him at this point in his career, but moving to Everton would have the potential to hurt his Anfield legacy.

If Gomez stays, it wouldn’t be a bad thing, given his vast experience and versatility, and Slot spoke highly of him earlier in the season, saying:

“It also says a lot about his mentality in recent weeks and months where didn’t play that much that he is now able, without playing a lot, to play 90 minutes on Wednesday and then put in a performance like this on Saturday. This is what people told me when I came in. Joe is a top, top, top professional who no matter what position he is in always gives his best for the team and for himself as well, and I think he got the reward for it because I think the fans loved what they saw.”

Ultimately, it may be that the decision rests with Gomez himself, with Liverpool in no rush to sell him, but unlikely to stop him if he wants to move on.
