Liverpool and their Premier League rivals have learned that Bournemouth defender Dean Huijsen has a £50million release clause in his contract which becomes active this summer which has “top clubs” on alert.
The remaining months of the Premier League season are going to be a wild ride for Liverpool fans for a host of reasons.
Of course, you have the emotions and suspense of having Arsenal chasing Liverpool for the title but there is so much going on behind the scenes at Anfield that are setting the stage for drama as the season draws to a close.
Everyone is well aware of the stalled contract talks between Liverpool and Mohamed Salah, Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold with the trio at risk of leaving for free at the end of the season. But then, you also have Luis Diaz, who is not being offered a new deal and Ibrahima Konate, who is also at a deadlock in contract talks with new sporting director Richard Hughes.
Centre-back is already a problem and while there are no concrete links between Konate and PSG or Real Madrid yet, if Liverpool somehow lose both van Dijk and Konate, Slot will have an impossible job on his hands trying to replace them.
One player the Reds are interested in even if there are no outgoings in central defence is Bournemouth’s Dean Huijsen.
Liverpool learn Dean Huijsen’s £50m release clause is active this summer
A previous report from TBR Football claimed that Huijsen’s release clause is set at £55m but a new claim now puts the price £5m lower.
According to Fabrizio Romano, however, Huijsen is free to leave Bournemouth if his £50m release clause is triggered.
The journalist reports: “Dean Huijsen’s contract at Bournemouth includes £50m release clause.
“The clause is 100% confirmed as revealed in January. It will be valid from summer 2025.

While Huijsen is a talented player, he would need time to adjust to the standard at Liverpool and should by no means be considered a readymade solution to any of the Reds’ centre-back woes.
Liverpool need to sign a new centre-back regardless of whether or not Konate and van Dijk stay. This is further emphasised by Joe Gomez picking up a serious injury.
