Liverpool are “looking” to make a specific attacking signing in the January transfer window, as Arne Slot looks for more additions.

It has been a dismal start to the season for the Reds, with eight defeats in their last 11 matches heaping enormous pressure on Slot.

Liverpool’s summer signings haven’t yet fired, with Florian Wirtz still adjusting to the Premier League and Alexander Isak lacking match practice, and the Premier League champions desperately need them to find top form.

Despite the big money spent in the summer, it looks as though fresh faces are being looked at ahead of the winter window.

According to Sky Sports Germany journalist Florian Plettenberg on X, Liverpool are eyeing a winger in January, with Antoine Semenyo name-checked, and other positions are also being looked at:

“Liverpool are definitely planning additions in January. LFC They are looking for a winger who can make an immediate impact, with Antoine #Semenyo among the candidates. They are also monitoring strikers with favourable market conditions, and they have an eye on centre-backs as well, including Marc Guehi.”

Is a centre-back more important than a winger for Liverpool?

Signing a new winger, namely Semenyo, would delight many Liverpool supporters, with Bournemouth teammate Lewis Cook lavishing him with praise in the past:

“As a team, we knew the quality he has and we saw that last year. He’s got to just keep working hard – being aggressive and being clinical. He’s got a lot better at running back and helping out the team too. He’s a powerful lad and has all the ability in the world. Hopefully he can continue to show that.”

Despite this, signing a centre-back is arguably more important for Liverpool in January, given Ibrahima Konate’s poor form this season, and the fact that Giovanni Leoni is injured for the rest of the campaign.

If Marc Guehi remains the top defensive option and isn’t available until the summer, it does make some sense to wait, but a new signing in that area wouldn’t go amiss.

Equally, should Semenyo become available in January, with his rumoured £60m release clause allowed to be triggered, it is a transfer Liverpool should ensure they don’t miss out on.
