Liverpool are said to be interested in signing an exciting young attacker who has “enormous potential”, according to a new transfer update.
The Reds are preparing for one of their busiest summer transfer windows in recent memory, with plenty of money expected to be available for Arne Slot.
In general, owners FSG have been relatively frugal in their spending, but it does look as though their approach could change this time around.
Liverpool need new signings in several areas, despite their Premier League title win, with both full-back positions and centre forward in need of strengthening.
Another winger also isn’t out of the question for the Reds, especially if Luis Diaz leaves, and Caught Offside claim that Lyon ace Malick Fofana is a summer target.
They state that the 20-year-old could be available for £42m, with Arsenal, Aston Villa, Newcastle, Paris Saint-Germain and Juventus all mentioned as suitors.
Fofana a brilliant young prospect
Fofana is a player with such an exciting future in the game, having already impressed for Lyon, already scoring 15 goals in 60 appearances for the Ligue 1 side, also chipping in with seven assists.
The one-time Belgium international has netted six times in just five starts in the Europa League this season, while football talent scout Jacek Kulig has said he has “enormous potential”. Meanwhile, earlier this season, his agent talked up a move to Anfield, saying:
“The choice of the heart would be Liverpool. He has the potential to become a regular, and above all, we’d like to see him succeed African legends such as Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane.”
Fofana is primarily a left winger, so realistically, it only makes sense for Liverpool to make a move for him if Diaz does leave, with the Colombian and Cody Gakpo already strong options in that position.
At 20, the Belgian is still in the infancy of his career, though, and he could mature into a fantastic player for the Reds over time, only getting better as he matures.
The rumoured £42m could ultimately be a bargain over time, but as mentioned, much will depend on the outgoings at Liverpool this summer.
