Liverpool are now “increasingly likely” to complete the signing of a defensive “gem” this summer, according to an exciting transfer update.
There is so much attention on the Reds’ attack currently, with the likes of Alexander Isak, Rodrygo and even Vinicius Junior linked with moves to Anfield.
There are also the futures of Luis Diaz and Darwin Nunez to sort, with the South American pair far from definite to both be Liverpool players come the end of the transfer window.
A new centre-back is also a pressing matter for the Reds, however, following Jarell Quansah’s move to Bayer Leverkusen, and a promising update has emerged in that respect.
According to Football Insider‘s Pete O’Rourke, Liverpool are “increasingly likely” to sign Crystal Palace captain Marc Guehi this summer, once Ousmane Diomande’s £45m switch from Sporting CP to Selhurst Park is sealed.
It is claimed that a “domino effect could be triggered as soon as the South London side bring in the Ivorian defender, as it would enable them to sell their captain.”
Guehi the next excellent signing for Liverpool?
This is proving to be such an exciting summer at Liverpool on the transfer front, with a world-class player already signed in Florian Wirtz, and Jeremie Frimpong and Milos Kerkez also brilliant full-back additions.
If the Reds were able to make Guehi a part of their defence, it would be another big step in the right direction, with the England international a sizeable upgrade on Quansah, being hailed by Michael Beale in the past:
“He shows a huge amount of confidence to play on the left side and his technical upbringing from Chelsea means he can use his left foot, albeit he is dominant on his right foot. When you see the teams line up, he’s not the biggest centre-back but he has a huge leap. Quietly people are realising we have an absolute gem in him.”
At 25, Quehi is at the perfect age to hit the ground running at Liverpool, and while it will be hard to break up the Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konate partnership, plenty of playing time should still come his way.
Konate’s future is a talking point at the moment, too, with Real Madrid reportedly eyeing him up, so Guehi could even be a key starter, whether that be this summer or next year.
