Liverpool are optimistic of their chances of signing Yan Diomande this summer, but they will have to reach a compromise with RB Leipzig over their valuation of the Ivorian.
The Reds had an initial offer of £86m for the 19-year-old rejected on Thursday, but are expected to increase the value of their bid, with claims surfacing that a bid worth £104m could be enough to get the deal done.
That claim is being contradicted by more reliable sources, however.
Between Ben Jacobs, Fabrizio Romano and David Ornstein, the feeling is coming across that Liverpool will get this deal done, and that it’s only a matter of settling on a fee with Leipzig.
Jacobs, Romano and Ornstein share encouraging Diomande to Liverpool updates
Ben Jacobs
Reporting via talkSPORT, Jacobs claims that Liverpool are confident they can get a deal to sign Diomande across the line, stating Leipzig want them to increase their offer from £86m to £112m.
He reports: “Liverpool are optimistic on Yan Diomande. RB Leipzig would ideally like the player to stay for an extra year, but as it stands, he’s not communicated that he wants to sign a new deal on excellent terms and then leave in 2027. Liverpool’s latest offer is approaching €100m (£86m).
“RB Leipzig are now saying they want €130m (£112m). I think there’s a fair chance the parties meet halfway and this deal gets done. There are other targets including Yankuba Minteh in case this deal doesn’t come off. But there’s absolutely no doubt Diomande is Liverpool’s leading target. Bradley Barcola is there on the list as well.”

Fabrizio Romano
Reporting via his YouTube channel, Fabrizio Romano reports that Leipzig would prefer to keep Diomande, stating that the odds of Diomande staying in the Bundesliga are 50/50.
He reports: “The intention of RB Leipzig is to try keep Yan Diomande. They want to offer him a new deal, give him a release clause and better salary, and go in summer 2027. On the other side, Diomande is really tempted by the opportunity to leave now.
“It’s a 50-50 situation in this moment. Liverpool had a bid rejected, but are expected to return. Liverpool really want him and consider him top target. Don’t forget Paris Saint-Germain also have interest in the player. Also don’t forget the name of Bradley Barcola for Liverpool.”

David Ornstein
Finally, David Ornstein reports via The Athletic podcast that Leipzig do not want to sell Diomande, providing extra information, including an update on the PSG involvement in this transfer battle.
He reports: “RB Leipzig want to keep Yan Diomande and renew his contract; however that’s not going to stop the vultures circling. Liverpool are at the forefront of that. It’s clear Diomande has been their top target for some time. They had made contact with RB Leipzig and that they were in a strong position in terms of the player side of things. In their approach to Leipzig, they had expressed a willingness – essentially an offer – to pay a package worth approaching €100m (£86m) which I don’t think was their first proposal, it was lower and they improved it.”

He continued: “They have done a lot of work on the player side, they are firmly in the driving seat if he is going to leave RB Leipzig. They are tough negotiators so we can’t say for certain yet. “There is strong competition from Paris Saint-Germain. They do want Yan Diomande… at this moment in time as I understand it, unless they get an indication from the player that PSG is his choice, they are not going to approach Leipzig.
“If they do get that indication, they will structure that deal and both bosses at PSG and Leipzig have a very strong relationship. They may be behind but let’s wait and see how it involves. That’s why Liverpool have other options as well.”
