Liverpool are “100% convinced” that the Reds will complete the signing of a defensive “revelation” this summer, according to Sky Sports journalist Florian Plettenberg.
The Premier League champions have made a promising start to their summer, already signing Jeremie Frimpong from Bayer Leverkusen and looking almost certain to snap up Florian Wirtz from the same club, too.
Milos Kerkez has emerged as another leading target for Liverpool, with a new left-back needed at Anfield this summer, especially with Andy Robertson linked with a move to Atletico Madrid.
Writing on X on Sunday, Plettenberg claimed that he is “100% convinced” that the 21-year-old Bournemouth defender will seal a move to the Reds ahead of next season:
“Liverpool are 100% convinced that the transfer of Milos Kerkez will go through. It is set to be finalised once Florian Wirtz has signed and been presented. A verbal agreement between LFC and Kerkez is done.”
A superb long-term signing for Liverpool
Kerkez has felt like the perfect left-back option for Liverpool for months now, following such an impressive season for Bournemouth in the Premier League.
The Hungarian possesses a feisty character and quality at both ends of the pitch, with five assists and two goals coming his way in the league in 2024/25.
Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher even talked up the idea of the Reds signing Kerkez as early as last December, saying of the Hungary international:
“Kerkez has been a revelation at Bournemouth. The only reason why I mentioned Liverpool is the fact that, yes they’re probably looking for someone in that position, but the sporting director who brought him to Bournemouth, Richard Hughes, is now the sporting director at Liverpool. He’s aggressive, he’s got pace. Even when you look at him he looks like a full-back – really aggressive bombing up and down the left side.”
Kerkez is still only 21, meaning he could potentially be Liverpool’s left-back solution for the next decade, and even if Robertson stays put this summer, he now needs to be considered a squad player.
The Bournemouth ace can bring the pace and energy that the Scot once possessed when he was at his prime, giving the Reds’ attack an extra dimension.
