Liverpool are “leading the race” to complete the signing of Bournemouth star Milos Kerkez this summer, according to renowned journalist Fabrizio Romano.
The 21-year-old has emerged as a continued target for the Reds throughout this season, with Andy Robertson showing signs of being on the wane.
Kerkez has excelled for Bournemouth throughout the 2024/25 campaign, with Gary Neville picking him in his Premier League Team of the Season earlier this week, and he has bagged two goals and five assists.
Now, speaking to Caught Offside, Romano claimed that Liverpool are edging closer to signing the Hungarian, following “positive contact” with the player’s agent:
“Liverpool are leading the race, in very positive contact with the agent of the player, who is the same agent who represents Federico Chiesa. So very good relationship with Liverpool, the player would be very keen on the move. So the conversation is positive also in this case. It’s not in the final stages yet, it’s not done yet. So we have to be more patient, compared to Jeremie Frimpong, which has been a very fast deal.”
Kerkez the perfect choice to replace Robertson
Kerkez fits the bill perfectly for Liverpool this summer, possessing a combination of defensive resilience and attacking quality, not to mention a feistiness that will make him popular with the supporters.
The Hungary international is still at the start of his career, so he would come in as someone who could fill the left-back spot for a decade, with Robertson becoming a squad player and Kostas Tsimikas potentially moving on.
The Bournemouth ace has been praised by his current manager Andoni Iraola, too, with the Spaniard lauded the strides he has made:
“Milos has improved a lot from past season. He has done a great job defensively. I think he’s a player that because of his physical condition arrives so many times to the last third with the ball under control to put good crosses that the number of assists, of good balls he was having, was quite low past season, but this season I think he’s deciding much better.”
Granted, there may still be some rawness in Kerkez’s game, considering he is only 21, but he already looks like such a polished player, and he stands out as the ideal new left-back choice for Liverpool.
