Mohamed Salah “will stay” put at Liverpool and sign a new contract beyond this season, according to an update from former scout Mick Brown.

The 32-year-old was once again in mesmerising form on Sunday afternoon, inspiring the Reds to a priceless 2-0 victory away to Manchester City, sending them 11 points clear of Arsenal.

Salah scored and assisted once apiece at the Etihad, strengthening his case for the PFA Player of the Year award, as he continues to put together one of the greatest seasons by a player in Premier League history.

Speaking to Football Insider, Brown claimed that the Egyptian King will remain at Liverpool moving forward, signing a new deal in the process.

“From what I hear, I think Salah will stay at Liverpool,” Brown said.

“I’ve always expected him to stay, to be honest. But it won’t be finalised or announced until after the end of the season. His agent is working to secure the best deal he can for him, so he’ll squeeze every last drop out of Liverpool and that means dragging things on for a bit longer.

“He’ll take them to the wire before any real decision is made, but I think he’s going to stay. The one I’d be more worried about is Trent Alexander-Arnold and whether Real Madrid come calling for Van Dijk as well while they’re looking for new defenders.”

More important than any new signing

Salah showed on Sunday why sorting a new contract is imperative for Liverpool, considering he is possibly the world’s best player on current form.

This is an astonishing season that the Reds legend is putting together, with 25 goals and 16 assists coming his way in the league, and there is no reason why his powers should wane any time soon.

Tying down both Trent Alexander-Arnold and Virgil van Dijk is also vital, but Salah arguably possesses the greatest aura out of any player in the country right now, and he is irreplaceable for Liverpool.

It does feel as though he is happy at Anfield, which is encouraging, but the club have to give him want he wants, making him feel truly appreciated.
