Liverpool have been linked with signing another of Europe’s hottest attacking talents.

The 22-year-old was a thrilling part of Paris Saint-Germain’s fluid and prolific attack.

With 21 goals and 21 assists, he attracted much attention on his way to becoming a Champions League winner and has reportedly found his way onto Liverpool’s transfer shortlist – but this claim is disputed by a source as trusted as the origin of the rumour.

It does, however, follow a report from Paul Joyce on Wednesday that Liverpool are pursuing multiple attackers. As it is, they are working to sign Alexander Isak although it remains to be seen how that will pan out.

With Liverpool reportedly being given “every encouragement” to submit a second bid for Isak, could they possibly go for Barcola too?

Are their truth to claims Liverpool want to sign Bradley Barcola?

On Wednesday evening, Ligue 1 and French football expert Fabrice Hawkins reported on X that Liverpool are interested in signing Barcola, citing “two conditions” that “must be met” in order for a transfer to be possible.

First, Barcola must “indicate the he wishes to leave.” The player will have to expressly request to leave it seems.

Second, PSG will only consider a sale if “an offer exceeding €100m” is presented.

Despite Hawkins, a trusted source for breaking news in French footbaall, putting his stamp of approval on this story, several sources report that Liverpool are not interested.

The Athletic‘s James Pearce reports that Liverpool are “not currently considering a move for Paris Saint-Germain’s Bradley Barcola.”

That is in spite of the fact that Liverpool “rate the 22-year-old highly” but it would block the progression of 17-year-old Rio Ngumoha. It is very clear that Arne Slot has big plans for the teenager.

Pearce writes: “Liverpool don’t want to do anything to impact Ngumoha’s progression. They also have Cody Gakpo, who is expected to be a regular on the left side of Slot’s attack.”

Liverpool will value Bradley Barcola in the same bracket as Hugo Ekitike

Even if Liverpool are interested in Barcola and consider him an option in the event it is not possible to sign Alexander Isak, there would likely be discrepancies in valuation between the two clubs.

As good as Barcola is, he’s not worth €100m (£87m) if Liverpool managed to sign Hugo Ekitike for €91m (£79m) – and even then the base price is £69m with £10m in add-ons.

Last season, Hugo Ekitike starred too with 22 goals and 12 assists. The difference in quality between the Bundesliga and Ligue 1 is significant enough for it to be reasonable to imagine Liverpool might value Ekitike in line with Barcola.

For now, this is just an exciting rumour but things may develop further in this exciting window where Liverpool have defied all convention with their atypically high spending.
