Liverpool have been informed that they will have to potentially pay £29m to complete the signing of a World Cup winner this summer.

The Reds are already being linked with signings all over the pitch, with Virgil van Dijk recently claiming that he expects this to be a “big summer” at the club:

“Whatever happens in terms of players going out, players coming in, I think it should be a big summer. I think they’re planning to make it a big summer, so we all have to trust the board to do the right job. I think we 100 percent can improve. I think we shouldn’t forget the quality that the Premier League possesses, especially this season. It’s incredible how everyone can beat everyone.”

With Trent Alexander-Arnold departing Liverpool, a new right-back may need to come in, with Bayer Leverkusen star Jeremie Frimpong a strong target, but one who could be used further up the pitch.

Atletico Madrid right-back Nahuel Molina has also been mentioned as an option, and now Caught Offside claim that the La Liga could demand up to £29m for his services.

Newcastle United are also seen as potential suitors for the Argentine World Cup winner, and it is stated that the defender is “seeking a move to a club with a competitive project and a strong chance of winning trophies.”

Do Liverpool need Molina this summer?

Ultimately, Arne Slot has to decide how he is going to use Frimpong, with the Dutchman seemingly on the verge of joining Liverpool, and also weigh up if Conor Bradley is good enough to be the Reds’ first-choice right-back moving forward.

If he wants more depth there, and plans to play Frimpong in an attacking role, Molina could be a solid option – one with lots of experience and who excels defensively.

He could be a less exciting option than Bradley, but also a more dependable one, having averaged 1.5 tackles and clearances apiece in La Liga this season, also chipping in with three assists.

The £29m mooted isn’t a huge amount in the modern game – getting him for £25.2m is completely out of the question – so he could be a shrewd addition who can add depth in defensive areas, especially as he can also do a job at centre-back, if required.
