Ibrahima Konate has been one of the worst performers in the Liverpool team this season and his form shows no sign of improving.

Gone is the player who had Anfield screaming, ‘IBOOU’ from last season every time he made an important intervention.

The Frenchman is out of contract at the end of the season, and while it seemed like a priority to extend his terms, his performances this season suggest it would be a major risk to renew.

Of course, the 26-year-old is not the only player underperforming but he is regularly making mistakes that are costing Liverpool precious points at a time when they cannot afford any more errors.

Jermaine Pennant has had enough of Ibrahima Konate after Leeds United shocker

Liverpool were held to a 3-3 draw by Leeds United on Saturday despite taking the lead twice, with Konate guilty of providing the home side with an easy route back into the game.

Taking to X, former Liverpool star, Jermaine Pennant admitted that his patience with Konate has run dry after another worrying performance from Konate.

“I’m done with Konate now seriously 4th game in a row he makes a mistake leading to a goal…” he wrote.

“He’s strong and quick but that’s it, technically he’s awful, doesn’t win aerial duels even though he’s 6’4, passing ability of Sunday league… Marc Guehi please come January 1st.”

Konate must improve soon or he may be released for free

It would be quite a turnaround for Liverpool to go from being engaged in talks with Konate’s representatives to willingly letting him leave for free at the end of the year.

All talk of outside interest in the French defender has evaporated as his stock plummets this season.

Liverpool sorely need the commanding centre-back that helped them win the Premier League last season but Konate is a shadow of his former self.

Pennant mentioned how important it is that Liverpool sign Marc Guehi in the January transfer window, and after his move to Anfield collapsed on deadline day, it further highlights how damaging that was.
