Liverpool are “closely monitoring” one of the most exciting players in the world, according to an encouraging claim from journalist Florian Plettenberg.
It has been such an eye-catching summer in the transfer market at Anfield, with FSG allowing plenty of funds to be spent, having received criticism in that respect in the past.
With Luis Diaz seemingly edging closer to leaving Liverpool all the time, amid continued interest from Bayern Munich, a replacement may need to be found.
Real Madrid forward Rodrygo has been mentioned as an option recently, and writing on X, Plettenberg once again talked him up as a leading contender to join the Premier League champions this summer:
“Liverpool are closely monitoring the situation of Rodrygo as he is one of the candidates for LFC in case Luis Díaz leaves. Liverpool informed about conditions and current status.Real Madrid would be open to selling him. Rodrygo is aware of this, and the market is being explored. However, the package would be very expensive. The 24 y/o is reportedly already earning up to €10 million net per year.”
The perfect replacement for Diaz at Liverpool?
Rodrygo is arguably one of Europe’s most talented attacking players, so the idea of him replacing Diaz at Liverpool has to be considered exciting.
That’s meant as no disrespect to the Colombian, who was excellent en route to the Reds winning the Premier League title last season, but the Madrid superstar is a level up from him, with England ace Jude Bellingham a huge admirer:
“Rodrygo, so underrated. For me he’s probably the most talented and most gifted player in the squad. The things he can do with the football – we’ll be messing around and he’ll flick the ball up somehow and you’re like, ‘How do you do that?’. I’m trying to do it, twisting up my ankles and everything like that. He’s a pleasure to play with.”
Some Liverpool fans may want Diaz to stay, but at 24, Rodrygo is four years younger and has the higher long-term ceiling, so the Reds signing him would be the better outcome.
He already has 68 goals and 51 assists for Madrid, as well as scoring seven times in 33 caps for Brazil, and the prospect of him in the same attack as Mohamed Salah, Florian Wirtz and Hugo Ekitike is mouthwatering.
