Liverpool could allow a “world-class” player to depart for as little as £8.6m this summer, according to a fresh transfer claim from abroad.
It has been a relentless summer transfer window at Anfield, with a host of highly-rated new players arriving, from Florian Wirtz to Hugo Ekitike.
There is still time for Alexander Isak to arrive in a stunning move from Newcastle United, too, as well as a new centre-back to replace Jarell Quansah.
Some individuals have also moved on, including Trent Alexander-Arnold and Luis Diaz, and more are likely to follow them out of the exit door before the end of August.
One such figure is Federico Chiesa, who suffered a tough first season in a Liverpool shirt, struggling to be a part of Arne Slot’s plans throughout the campaign.
It is widely expected that the Italian will leave the Reds this summer, and now Sportmediaset [via Sport Witness] claim that he could depart for as little as £8.6m, with his value dropping.
Atalanta and Napoli are named as potential suitors in the report, with a return to his homeland looking the most likely outcome for Chiesa.
A move that simply hasn’t worked out
Chiesa felt like a curious signing at the time when he joined Liverpool last summer, with his injury history making him something of a gamble from Juventus.
Ultimately, it was a risk worth taking, considering he only cost £12.5m, but it hasn’t worked out at all, with the 27-year-old’s performances flattering to deceive – he made only one start and six appearances in the Premier League – despite once being hailed by Alessandro Pierini:
“He’s world-class. He has all the ability and desire of a great player. If he improves then he’ll be even better than his father [Enrico]. I have loads of respect for Enrico and all he has done to help Federico come on as a player until now.”
If Chiesa does leave Liverpool, he will depart as a popular figure who always had a smile on his face and gave his all for the team, but a new challenge feels like the right outcome for all parties.
