Liverpool are reportedly keeping a close watch on Murillo’s situation at Nottingham Forest, with the Brazilian defender increasingly linked with a move to one of Europe’s elite clubs.

Murillo could be heading toward a major career move this summer, with Liverpool among the sides monitoring developments at Nottingham Forest.

Since arriving in England in 2023, Murillo has quickly established himself as one of the Premier League’s most impressive young centre-backs.

His consistent performances have attracted growing attention from clubs across Europe, and his long-term future increasingly appears likely to lie at a higher competitive level.

Liverpool’s interest is believed to stem from uncertainty surrounding the future of Ibrahima Konate, who remains in discussions over a potential contract extension.

Should the French international fail to commit his future to Anfield, the Reds are understood to view Murillo as a strong candidate to step into a starting role.

Relegation threat could shape Murillo decision

Murillo remains a hugely popular figure among Nottingham Forest supporters, and his importance to the squad was reflected when he signed a contract extension running until 2029.

That long-term deal protects Forest’s negotiating position, with previous reports suggesting the club values the defender at around £70 million.

However, his future may ultimately depend on the club’s Premier League status.

The i Paper claims Murillo is not actively pushing for a move away from the City Ground, but the situation could change dramatically if Forest are relegated. In that scenario, club owner Vangelis Marinakis could face increasing pressure to sanction a sale, particularly given the strong interest from major clubs.

Liverpool face strong competition for Murillo: Summer move increasingly likely regardless of survival

While Liverpool are among the clubs monitoring Murillo’s situation, they are far from alone in their interest. Manchester United are reported to be one of the most serious contenders for his signature, while Chelsea and Real Madrid are also keeping close tabs on the defender’s progress.

Despite speculation, Murillo is believed to be content at Nottingham Forest for now. However, the prospect of joining one of Europe’s top clubs could prove difficult to ignore if formal offers arrive.

Former Forest manager Steve Cooper previously described the Brazilian as a “super talent,” highlighting the level of confidence in his long-term potential.

Nottingham Forest remain locked in a battle to secure their Premier League status, currently sitting just above the relegation zone.

Even if the club successfully avoids relegation, Murillo’s growing reputation means interest is unlikely to fade. At 23, he is entering a stage of his career where a move to a Champions League-level side could represent the natural next step.

For Liverpool, the situation is one to watch closely as they assess defensive options ahead of what is expected to be a pivotal summer transfer window.
