Liverpool owners FSG believe that numerous mitigating factors support the argument that Arne Slot deserves another season at the club after the failures of the 2025-26 season.
Miguel Delaney, chief football writer for The Independent, claims that despite genuine Saudi interest in Michael Edwards and Richard Hughes, Liverpool have no plans to release Arne Slot from his role at the end of the season.
“The Saudi Pro League are targeting both Michael Edwards and Richard Hughes from Liverpool this summer, in what could deepen a summer of upheaval at Anfield,” Delaney writes. “The Independent understands that there are nevertheless no current plans to move on Arne Slot, with the hierarchy believing there are numerous mitigating factors for a disappointing campaign.
“The team’s inconsistent form and questions over lopsided recruitment have created noise over the football leadership as much as the coach, with numerous sources believing there will be change regardless of what happens.”
Liverpool are dawdling this season
Liverpool must believe that the on-field issues have little to do with Slot otherwise it wouldn’t be the case that they are considering keeping him at the helm after this season.
Mohamed Salah announced this week that this season will be his last at the club, with Liverpool surprisingly set to allow him to leave for free in the summer, according to multiple reports.

The Reds will shed his approximated £400,000 per week deal in doing so, but now face the daunting task of replacing the best right winger the Premier League has ever seen.
However, before recruitment and sales become a conversation, Liverpool need to realise that you cannot plan a successful summer transfer window when your CEO of Football and Sporting Director are both linked with imminent exits from the club hierarchy.
That’s before the rumours of Slot leaving the club are brought into the picture.
Between the terrible football this season, Slot’s future, rumours of the club hierarchy splintering, and the timing of Mo Salah’s exit announcement, Liverpool are dawdling this season.
Gone is the clinical decision-making that once characterised this football operation. Liverpool need a return to strong leadership as soon as possible.
