Liverpool are believed to be interested in snapping up Tottenham midfielder Lucas Bergvall in the summer transfer window, according to a fresh claim.
It will be so interesting to see who the Reds look to sign at the end of the season, with fans eyeing reinforcements in various positions.
On the face of it, Liverpool don’t need to bring in many midfielders, if any, but recent comments from Alexis Mac Allister’s father were coy about the Argentine’s situation:
“Alexis is only thinking about Liverpool at the moment. We are waiting for an offer to renew his contract. We will see what the club’s plan is. We’ll wait and see what happens with the renewal. That’s all.”
According to a new report TEAMtalk, Bergvall has emerged as a target for Liverpool, and the Merseysiders have “begun plotting a raid” for the Spurs man.
The Reds have “registered an interest” in the Swede, who may look for a route out of north London this summer, with his club continuing to flatter to deceive in the Premier League.
Could Lucas Bergvall become an elite midfielder at Liverpool?
Bergvall’s stock arguably isn’t as high as it was a year or two ago, with the 20-year-old struggling to kick on, not least because of some injury problems.
That’s not to say that he couldn’t be an exciting option for Liverpool, though, with Pep Guardiola among his admirers, once saying of him:
“The pace of this team? Pfft, it is difficult. Maybe Liverpool [are better], but Bergvall, every time he has the ball and run, unstoppable. Spence and Pedro Porro, Udogie, [Dejan] Kulusevski, Son [Heung-min], an incredible physical team with a clear idea to play.”
Bergvall has a huge amount of ability and is still an extremely young player with many years ahead of him, and he feels like a shrewd addition for Liverpool in the summer window.
He would add box-to-box quality in the middle of the park, and if Mac Allister does end up moving on, he could be a long-term replacement.
As mentioned, his reputation isn’t as great as it was, but that could even aid Liverpool, allowing them to swoop in while others have gone colder on him.
