Liverpool centre-back Jarell Quansah is reportedly wanted by 2023 Champions League finalists Inter Milan, in a potential shock summer move.
The 22-year-old has enjoyed a meteoric rise over the past couple of seasons, maturing into a reliable squad player for both Jurgen Klopp and Arne Slot.
Admittedly, Quansah hasn’t quite shone as much this term as he did in 2023/24 – he was substituted at half-time away to Ipswich Town on the opening weekend – but he is still a young player with lots of potential.
According to a new claim from Spazio Inter [via The Boot Room], Inter are interested in signing the Englishman this summer, with the Reds willing to sell him for £17m.
Should Liverpool keep hold of Quansah?
Liverpool have a big decision to make regarding Quansah’s future, with the club potentially not wanting to lose a talented young footballer, but also considering the idea of cashing in on him.
The centre-back has been described as an “absolute monster” by football talent scout Jacek Kulig, while Arne Slot praised him after being called up for England, saying:
“Every time he had to play, except for maybe the first one or two games, but afterwards he had to play you could see that maybe he is no longer a talent because as a talent you don’t have any setbacks, but the moment you get setbacks it’s about you and how you react. I think he showed in his recent performances that he’s outgrown being called a talent. That’s probably what Thomas Tuchel saw and sees as well by giving him a call-up.”
Ultimately, the decision lies with Liverpool’s recruitment team, as well as Slot, as they weigh up if Quansah can grow into a genuinely key starter for many years to come.
At least one new central defender is needed at Anfield before the start of next season, regardless of whether the youngster stays put or not, and they could even be wise to bring in two new faces in that area.
In truth, Liverpool fans would likely be divided if Quansah was sold, with some seeing him as a big part of the future and others feeling that he can be improved upon.
