Liverpool could look to sign a “rapid” attacking player once Federico Chiesa departs this summer, according to journalist Sacha Tavolieri.
The future of Chiesa at Anfield looks bleak, with the Italian not included in the Reds’ squad for their pre-season tour of Asia.
This suggests that the 27-year-old’s time as a Liverpool player is on the verge of reaching its conclusion, following a disappointing opening 12 months at the club.
Granted, Chiesa won the Premier League title and has become a popular figure with his teammates and the supporters, but it doesn’t appear as though Arne Slot sees him as part of his plans.
Now, Tavolieri has taken to X to claim that Liverpool will look to sign Lyon winger Malick Fofana once Chiesa is sold by the Reds this summer:
“Liverpool FC remains on standby for Malick Fofana. As soon as Federico Chiesa’s departure to Serie A is finalized, the Reds are expected to move for the Belgian, who is highly rated by the scouting department.”
Fofana a fantastic potential addition for Liverpool
If Chiesa does leave, as well as Luis Diaz, more attacking depth will be required out wide for Liverpool, with Real Madrid winger Rodrygo continually mentioned as an option.
In Fofana, the Reds have another hugely exciting target, though, with journalist Bence Bocsak heaping praise on his ability last month:
“Malick Fofana is rapid, scores goals with both his left and right foot and he’s still so young. So much to like and looks like there is a deal to be done this summer with Lyon’s current situation.”
Fofana bagged five goals and four assists in 16 Ligue 1 starts last season, but more impressively, he netted six times in just 10 outings in the Europa League.
Still only 20, the Frenchman is already delivering strong end product, and while he is at his best on the left wing, he can also be a force on the opposite flank and in a more central role.
It remains to be seen if Liverpool have the funds to sign both Rodrygo and Fofana as replacements for Diaz and Chiesa, but if they managed to, it would make them even more formidable in the final third.
