Liverpool are considering selling Luis Diaz in the summer with the club not planning on offering the winger a new contract after reports from Colombia first broke the story.
Despite Liverpool dominating domestically and in Europe, there is still a sense of discontent and a lot of it comes down to contract uncertainty.
Caoimhin Kelleher is not going to sign a new deal and will probably leave in search of game time while FSG failed to reach an agreement with any of Mohamed Salah, Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold over their expiring contracts.
Now it seems, there is truth to Liverpool not offering Luis Diaz a new deal. A report from his native Colombia from Antena2 suggested that there is no offer forthcoming from Liverpool has now been corroborated by a Liverpool journalist.
Liverpool are not planning on offering Luis Diaz a new contract which opens the door for a summer exit, reports David Lynch in a conversation with Anfield Index.
“He’s coming up to that point where he’s two years out from the end of his contract,” Lynch said.
“There’s big interest in him from clubs in Spain, and you’re in that realm of possibility.
“Liverpool are not at the point where they’re trying to ship him out, but his future is very much in doubt.
“I don’t necessarily expect that Liverpool will offer him a new contract, and with strong interest from La Liga and Saudi clubs, I wouldn’t be shocked if he moves on.”
Liverpool must have plans the media and fans aren’t privy to
With contracts winding down and several key players linked with summer exits, it seems that Liverpool must have a plan they aren’t sharing with anyone.
It’s the only way that letting the likes of Diaz go makes any sense. Liverpool are in a dominant position but the amount of change that seems set to take place is concerning.
Diaz may not be having a sensational season but his role in the false nine is creating the room for Cody Gakpo and Mohamed Salah to thrive in. Letting him leave would be risky unless it means there is an exciting new signing ready to fill his place.
