Liverpool are reportedly set to make an ambitious move to sign Brighton and Hove Albion midfielder Carlos Baleba, who has rapidly become known as one of the best midfielders in the Premier League.
All indications point towards the summer transfer window being a very busy one for Arne Slot with it likely a new striker and centre-back set to join the ranks. Should worst fears be realised any of Mo Salah, Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold leave, there will certainly be new signings to replace them.
The form of Ryan Gravenberch, in particular, suggests that a new midfielder isn’t essential. Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai have been world class while Curtis Jones has done a very good job when needed as well.
A new report now suggests that Liverpool want to add Brighton midfielder Carlos Baleba to the ranks although it would be a hugely expensive operation to complete with it possible he will cost more than Moise Caicedo cost Chelsea.
Liverpool set their sights on signing Carlos Baleba this summer
Brighton are potentially the best Premier League club at unearthing the hottest talents. Their scouts are certainly earning their keep and Carlos Baleba is the latest to join the Seagulls and immediately join the ranks of the best in the league.
In the 2023 summer transfer window, Brighton signed Baleba for just £23.2million and less than two seasons later, he is rubbing shoulders with some of the very best midfielders in England.
Now, Give Me Sport reports that Liverpool are interested in signing the Cameroonian 21-year-old. They are currently monitoring him, keeping a close eye on his progress at Brighton and could take their interest to the next level as the season draws closer to the finish line.
Liverpool are by no means alone in their admiration for the former Lille star with Manchester City also in pursuit. Although Man City made contact with Brighton last summer, they were turned away being told he was not for sale.
Baleba will cost a fortune. . The Guardian recently reported that the fee Brighton will demand “could exceed the £115million Chelsea paid for (Moises) Caicedo.” That could prove problematic but if he is truly seen as a priority, it would be incredible to see Liverpool go out and get him
