Liverpool will reportedly let Mohamed Salah break his contract a month early if an agreement cannot be reached over an extension but the club is optimistic a deal can be made.
The Egyptian is out of contract on 1 July which gives Liverpool around four and a half months to extend his deal for another few years.
However, an extension is not guaranteed and clubs from Saudi Arabia have made it clear they want the 32-year-old.
In fact, former Liverpool defender Dejan Lovren says Salah is closer to leaving the club than staying.
“I think he’s closer to leaving, he’s closer to leaving than to staying at the moment,” Lovren told winwin.
Report suggests Liverpool will let Salah leave early if he joins a Saudi Pro League team
According to a report from GiveMeSport, “Liverpool will allow Salah to leave his current deal early if he doesn’t extend, and without cost to Hilal, if he chooses to exit Anfield for Saudi.
“Right now, Saudi dealmakers are simply doing their due diligence, knowing clarity on Salah’s future is expected relatively soon. Liverpool and Salah are yet to find common ground on a contract length or wage, but talks are nonetheless described as positive by sources within the club.
“Hilal believe Salah will only join them if he leaves Liverpool, making it a straight choice between the two clubs, although several European suitors are also alert to his situation. PSG have consistently denied holding talks with Salah, although their president Nasser Al-Khelaifi does enjoy a close friendship with him.”
Salah’s “main priority” is to stay at Liverpool
While that might seem like Liverpool are preparing for the worst, a report from Caught Offside claims that Mohamed Salah’s “main priority is to renew his contract with Liverpool“
They report: “His main priority remains to renew his contract with Liverpool. In order for that scenario to occur, the 32-year-old wants a deal that must fully satisfy him in terms of salary and contract length.
“Liverpool, for their part, have offered a two-year extension with a good financial package and, though it is close to what Salah wants, some details are still missing and both parties aren’t quite there yet.
“Reds fans will be delighted to understand that talks are expected to speed up – with confidence – in the coming weeks, as both Liverpool and Salah’s representatives work towards an agreement.”
Ultimately, the report states that Salah does not want to move to Saudi Arabia yet and wants to continue competing at the very highest level.
Salah is arguably the best player in the world and has 26 goals and 18 assists in all competitions.
If Liverpool can hold onto him for a few more years, they will ensure they will remain at the very top of their game.
Slot has done wonders with the Reds and he would quite like to have Salah at his disposal for a little longer.
