Luis Diaz has been linked with a summer departure from Anfield amid his lack of goals in 2025 and the news that Liverpool will not be extending his contract with Barcelona now considering signing him at the end of the season.

Diaz scored his first goal of 2025 against Wolves on Sunday when he bundled the ball into the back of the net before being wiped out by Jose Sa.

The Colombian has had a strange start to the year. On one hand, he has been brilliant at linking play and holding the ball up when Liverpool are in transition but on the other, Diaz has found it increasingly difficult to get in on the scoring. Cody Gakpo and Mohamed Salah have been carrying the goalscoring demands on their backs.

It is beginning to seem as though Diaz is in the final days of his Liverpool career after multiple reports last week claimed that the former Porto star will not be offered a new contract and will likely seal a transfer away from Anfield.

In 2023, Luis Diaz’s father irritated a few fans by voicing his son’s long-held fondness for Barcelona.

“The truth is that I know very little about Barcelona at the moment. It is true that Luis is a loyal Barcelona fan and it would be his dream to go there,” he told Win Sports.

“So far I would like to thank Porto and Liverpool for the way they welcomed him and received him. Luis is a player who finds it easy to win over because of the way he is, because of his humility, his work, his dedication, he is a very disciplined player, thank God. There would be no problem if Luis came to Barcelona because it is a top team and one of the best in the world.”

Now, Spanish news outlet Mundo Deportivo claims that Barcelona are interested in Diaz as they target new attacking signings for the summer.

Their report names several players, including Alexander Isak, Rafa Leao and Nico Williams but in regards to Diaz, it’s said that his contract, which expires in 2027 could see him sold in the summer.

Liverpool will reportedly “not sell cheap” but it begs the question: where will he fit in at Camp Nou?

Hansi Flick has Yamine Yamal, Raphinha and Robert Lewandowski to choose from. The trio has a combined 99 goals and assists this season and doesn’t seem to be in fire need of reinforcement.
