Liverpool youngster Rio Ngumoha is reportedly “on the lists” of many top clubs, as the Reds look to fend off interest in one of their most prized assets.
The 17-year-old is one of the most exciting emerging talents in Europe, having burst onto the scene at Anfield over the past 12 months.
Ngumoha represents Liverpool’s future, but there will inevitably be interest in him, with Bayern Munich strongly linked with a move to sign him recently.
Speaking to Football Insider, former Everton CEO Keith Wyness said that the winger will be a wanted man this summer, in a concern for Andoni Iraola, but not playing at the 2026 World Cup is a good thing for the Reds:
“I don’t think it’s going to make any difference (not being at the World Cup), he’s already on the radar of every major club. Every scouting department and every sporting director will know his name, and it won’t be hard for them to know that. Whether he’s at the World Cup or not, he is on that list, with all the major clubs of young, aspiring talent coming through.
“Liverpool are lucky he’s not in the World Cup because if he did perform, that interest may increase, but make no mistake, he’s recognised already and he’ll be on the lists. It’s going to be tough for Liverpool. He certainly seems to be an outstanding talent. Seems to be a very switched-on young kid as well. Good brain and good personality. So he’s got it all going for him.
“He won’t be at the World Cup, so he will stay injury-free. Let’s see how that pans out, but make no mistake that he’s a name that is being scattered and hunted already.”
Can Rio Ngumoha be a future attacking great for Liverpool?
Ngumoha has the world at his feet, and Liverpool must ensure he is tied down to a long-term contract, as the Englishman has the ability to become a superstar.
The teenager is already a nightmare to play against, combining pace, skill and unpredictability, and his ambition was summed up by past comments about wanting to be a Ballon d’Or winner one day:
“I’m so confident in myself. Hopefully a Ballon d’Or. Hopefully. Also, like, many club trophies with Liverpool, but being regarded as one of the best players to ever play football.”
It would be a huge shock if Ngumoha left Liverpool this summer, and hopefully, he is in their ranks for the next decade or so, maturing into a true Anfield great.
