Liverpool may be closing in on a Premier League transfer record with their chase of Florian Wirtz but the Reds remain fixated with Newcastle United forward Alexander Isak.

It’s no surprise the Reds are keen on Isak after the Sweded scored 23 Premier League goals this season – not to mention how well he played every time he faced Liverpool.

Not only did Isak score to help Newcastle win the Carabao Cup, he also scored a world class goal from long range against Liverpool in the league at St. James’ Park.

However, after Newcastle qualified for the Champions League, it will be very, very difficult to sign him this summer even if he would be the perfect signing for Arne Slot’s side.

And to make matters even worse, Isak is under contract with the Tyneside club until 2028 which means Liverpool have very few ways to convince Newcastle to lower their reported £150m asking price.

Liverpool have already confirmed the signing of Jeremie Frimpong and are close to adding Florian Wirtz and Bournemouth’s Milos Kerkez to the mix with talks at final stages for both.

Now, TBR Football correspondent Graeme Bailey claims that Liverpool are still dreaming of signing Isak to replace Darwin Nunez.

“Liverpool still want a striker – we previously revealed that Liverpool were in for a ‘huge summer’ and that is how it is panning out.

“They have signed Frimpong and hope to follow that up shortly with Kerkez and Wirtz in a British record deal – but they are not finished.

“They want another central defender but a striker remains a priority, especially if as expected Nunez moves on and I am told his people are holding talks with various clubs.

“Jota is also one of those who they won’t stop from leaving and those exits will help pave the way for a new front-man.

“Isak is still one they would love, he is the dream signing striker wise and his contract talks are being monitored at Anfield. ”
