Liverpool are still battling to complete the signing of Bayern Munich winger Michael Olise in 2026, according to a new update from journalist Mark Brus.
The Frenchman is in devastating form this season, registering six goals and assists apiece in the Bundesliga, outlining his status as one of Europe’s most threatening wingers.
He also has one goal and two assists to his name in the Champions League, and three and two respectively for France in 2026 World Cup qualification, showing that he is starring for both club and country.
Liverpool have been linked with a move for Olise, and according to Brus’ sources for Caught Offside, they are still “tracking” the £123m-rated winger ahead of a move next year:
“Liverpool keep tracking Olise, he’s their first choice to replace Salah,” one source said. “Bayern want to keep him, but every player has his price, and they could consider a sale if someone comes in with €130–140 million.”
“There’s serious interest in Olise,” another source told me. “Keep an eye on Liverpool, Arsenal, and Manchester United.”
Is Olise Liverpool’s perfect successor to Salah?
Olise is a magnificent footballer with so much more improving to do, with Bayern manager Vincent Kompany heaping praise on him recently, saying:
“I certainly expect him to get even better. I’ve seen the development of talents like him many times. The most important thing is what they do in training every day. I see total calmness in Michael. He comes up to us because he wants to get even better. He’s now won things for the first time, but he has to keep going. I hope he can make further progress and that the Bayern fans will get joy from him for a long time.”
Olise stands out as the perfect eventual replacement for Mohamed Salah when he leaves, certainly in terms of style, gliding in off the right wing and combining aesthetically pleasing brilliance with consistent end product.
Liverpool should continue to consider him the leading right-sided target, but whether or not Bayer will sanction his exit remains to be seen, or if he wants to leave the Bundesliga champions.
