Liverpool remain interested in completing the signing of RB Leipzig star Yan Diomande at the end of the season, according to journalist Lewis Steele.

The Reds are firmly on the lookout for a successor to Mohamed Salah, with the 33-year-old officially departing Anfield in the summer.

Salah has confirmed as much in an emotional statement, with the Liverpool legend thanking the fans for their support over the past nine years:

“To the fans…I don’t have enough words. The support you showed me through the best time of my career, and you stood by me in the toughest times. It’s something I will never forget, and something I will take with me always. Leaving is never easy. You gave me the best time of my life. I will be always one of you. This club will always be my home, to me and to my family.

“Another big problem for Slot is he keeps making excuses. Sometimes you need to hold your hands up and say, look, we were second best on the day and we’re going to do out best to improve. Thank you for everything. Because of all of you, I will never walk alone.”

Demande has been linked with a move to Liverpool in the recent past, and according to The Daily Mail‘s Steele [via LFCTransferRoom on X], he “remains a long-term target” for the Premier League champions, as they continue to look at “multiple potential replacement” options for Salah.

Is Yan Diomande Liverpool’s perfect Mo Salah successor?

Diomande is such a huge young talent with the world at his feet, so it is only natural that Liverpool see him as a leading choice to arrive in the summer transfer window.

One figure at Red Bull has even described the Ivorian as the “most gifted” young players to emerge from their system since Erling Haaland, which is huge praise.

Diomande is still only 19 years of age, so Liverpool wouldn’t be signing the finish article, but he already has 10 goals and seven assists in just 26 appearances for Leipzig, showing that he is making an impact in terms of end product.

He also has three goals in nine caps for the Ivory Coast, and can play on either wing, so there is plenty to love about the idea of him being a Reds player next season and beyond.
