Liverpool’s summer transfer plans are starting to take shape, with AFC Bournemouth left-back Milos Kerkez emerging as a priority target.

According to The i Paper, the Reds are in a strong position to beat off competition from Arsenal, Manchester United, Manchester City, and Real Madrid to secure the Hungarian international.

Liverpool preparing for a summer overhaul

Despite leading the Premier League, recent setbacks – including a Champions League exit to Paris Saint-Germain and a Carabao Cup final defeat to Newcastle – have highlighted areas of the squad that need strengthening.

With uncertainty surrounding the futures of Trent Alexander-Arnold and Mohamed Salah – both of whom have yet to sign new contracts – Liverpool are preparing for major squad changes. Additionally, the club is expected to bring in a new striker, with Darwin Núñez’s departure looking increasingly likely.

One key area of concern is left-back.

While Andy Robertson has been a world-class performer for Liverpool over the years, his form has dipped this season. Kostas Tsimikas, meanwhile, has struggled to establish himself as a reliable long-term solution.

As a result, Arne Slot’s side is actively looking for reinforcements, and Kerkez is high on their list.

Kerkez prefers Liverpool move over rivals

Kerkez has enjoyed a breakout campaign at Bournemouth, impressing with his attacking intent and defensive resilience. The 21-year-old has made himself one of the most sought-after young full-backs in Europe, leading to strong interest from top clubs.

However, The i Paper reports that Kerkez is keen on a move to Anfield, citing his connection with Liverpool’s new sporting director Richard Hughes as a major factor.

Hughes was responsible for bringing the Hungarian to Bournemouth from AZ Alkmaar, and that relationship could play a crucial role in negotiations.

Liverpool have already made initial contact with both Kerkez’s representatives and Bournemouth but have yet to submit a formal bid.

With competition for his signature heating up, the Reds are reportedly moving quickly to finalize the deal, which is expected to be worth around £40 million.

Bournemouth duo to Anfield?

Kerkez may not be the only Bournemouth player heading to Liverpool this summer. The report also claims that Liverpool are willing to trigger Dean Huijsen’s £50m release clause, with the 19-year-old centre-back viewed as a key defensive target.

Additionally, if Alexander-Arnold does leave for Real Madrid, Liverpool will also be in the market for a right-back, though that will not affect their pursuit of Kerkez.

Kerkez’s potential arrival would signal a shift towards a younger, more dynamic full-back option at Anfield.

His energy, technical ability, and attacking prowess make him a perfect fit for Slot’s high-intensity style. If Liverpool can secure his signature, they could have a long-term successor to Robertson ready to step in and make an impact.
