West Ham captain and rumoured Liverpool transfer target Jarrod Bowen has provided a key update on his future, following the Hammers’ relegation.
An awful season has ended for the Reds, with Sunday’s 1-1 draw at home to Brentford in the Premier League a fitting way to bow out.
For West Ham, though, it has been even worse, with the east Londoners relegated to the Championship on Sunday despite beating Leeds United.
Bowen is the Hammers’ star man, being linked with a move to Liverpool of late, and there is naturally going to be lots of speculation about his future.
Speaking to Match of the Day [via Caught Offside], the 29-year-old hinted that he will stay put at the London Stadium beyond the summer, looking to get them back into the top flight:
“I’ve been here six and a half years now. Had a lot of good moments and this outweighs all of it. Getting this club relegated… it hurts.
“It’s disrespectful to everyone to start talking about that. I want this club to be in the Premier League. It’s a club that means so much to me and has given me so much so my vision is to get this club back in the Premier League.”
Jarrod Bowen would be an excellent signing by Liverpool
This is a shame, assuming Bowen doesn’t move on this summer, with the Englishman a potentially shrewd addition by Liverpool in the summer transfer window.
Granted, he arguably isn’t quite the force of old, as his 30th birthday approaches, but he could be a brilliant squad player, having been lauded by Ally McCoist:
“One thing I don’t think’s up for debate – West Ham United are a far better team with Bowen playing in it. He just gives them something special, doesn’t he? Good, good player, he’s been a great signing I’ve got to say.”
Bowen could be a perfect second-choice option on the right wing for Liverpool, behind a younger new signing such as RB Leipzig’s Yan Diomande, and it will be interesting to see if there is a twist regarding his future in the coming weeks.
