Liverpool have failed to twist Newcastle United’s arm into selling Alexander Isak this summer but it does not seem as though they will let that be the end of the story.

Despite spending a whopping £100m to sign Florian Wirtz, Liverpool were prepared to commit to another massive upfront payment of at least £120m to sign Isak.

Last season, the Swede scored 23 goals to make his argument for being the best Premier League striker. Although, Erling Haaland will be keen to remind England that he is still the best.

However, Isak will not be defending his crown as a Liverpool player after Newcastle United once again reminded Liverpool that he is not for sale at any price.

I’m honestly impressed at the Geordies’ resolve. They would have been commended for selling Isak, solving their PSR headache in the process before then signing Hugo Ekitike as his replacement.

Much like when Liverpool sold Philippe Coutinho for £142m in 2028, they would have been equipped to inject even more quality into their side but instead they have chosen to retain Isak’s services for another year – a season in which they are back in the Champions League.

Yet, it doesn’t seem as though this will be the last chapter in Liverpool’s desire to sign Isak with it now being reported they will return for him in future transfer windows.

Liverpool not ready to totally turn their backs on Alexander Isak

According to a report from the BBC‘s Samuel Mokbel, Liverpool will look to return for Isak next summer when Newcastle United will be in a more vulnerable position.

Their saving grace this summer is the fact that Isak still has three years left on his contract but next season, when he is down to the final two years of his deal, Newcastle will be more susceptible to temptation to sell.

Mokbel reports: “Even if Liverpool’s move for Hugo Ekitike comes to fruition, you can expect interest in Alexander Isak to remain.

“As things stand, the former Real Sociedad forward will enter the final two years of his contract next summer – a juncture at which Newcastle face significantly more jeopardy.

“Of course, Liverpool – with or without Ekitike – may enter next summer’s transfer window believing they do not require another centre-forward. But, if they do, Isak is unlikely to be too far away from their thoughts.”
