Liverpool are interested in completing the signing of Brighton winger Yankuba Minteh, according to a fresh claim from Mali manager Tom Saintfiet.
Mohamed Salah’s form has been a cause for concern this season, with the Reds legend falling way below the level expected of him.
Now 33 years of age, there is an argument to say that Salah has gone past his absolute best, even though he still has plenty to offer Liverpool moving forward.
That means the Premier League champions need to eye up a successor, and speaking to Africa Foot [via Sport Witness], Saintfiet said that Minteh is a target for them.
“I heard about it recently. I’m not really surprised that a big club like Liverpool are interested in this player. Liverpool have been struggling in recent weeks, with some poor results. Arne Slot, the Reds’ manager, recently spoke about his squad, which he believes needs strengthening. This means that Liverpool is considering strengthening their squad during the winter transfer window.”
Minteh a strong choice to be Salah’s successor at Liverpool?
Minteh is a raw and young player currently, which is only natural at the age of just 21, but he has all the tools to mature into one of the most formidable wingers around, having pace and trickery galore.
The Malian has Salah’s ability to cut inside from the right wing and wreak havoc with his left foot, with former Netherlands international Willem van Hanegem heaping praise on him:
“I’ve enjoyed him for a few games already. That guy is extremely dangerous with his pace. If I were Feyenoord, I would now cast my doubts if he could be rented from Newcastle United for another year.”
Minteh has one goal and two assists to his name in the Premier League so far this season, as well as five strikes in six outings for Mali in 2026 World Cup qualifying, and his numbers should only improve with age.
He is likely to become a wanted man in the coming years – Newcastle United may be regretting selling him to Brighton so early in his career – and Liverpool need to put themselves in a strong position to get him.
