Luis Diaz’s summer move from Liverpool to Bayern Munich still looks on the cards, following a significant update that has emerged from Germany.

The 28-year-old has been a good signing for the Reds since arriving from Porto back in January 2022, combining attacking quality with a great team ethic.

It has become clear that Diaz is eyeing a move away from Liverpool this summer, however, with Sky journalist Florian Plettenberg recently claiming as much on X:

“Luis Diaz has not only informed Liverpool of his desire to leave, but has now also made it clear to #LFC that he would like to join FC Bayern if possible. The transfer is approved by Vincent Kompany.

“There is no full agreement between Bayern and Díaz yet. However, personal terms are not an issue, with a potential contract running at least until 2029. It is now up to Bayern to reach an agreement with Liverpool. If not, Díaz could still join another club. Barcelona remain interested, but would currently be unable to register him.”

Now, SPORT BILD report that Liverpool and Bayern are “optimistic that an agreement will be reached” over the sale of Diaz to the Bundesliga champions.

The Reds are “willing to negotiate” a move for the Colombia international, with Bayern happy to bid as much as £65m, having already had a £59m offer rejected.

The perfect time for Diaz to leave Liverpool?

Diaz is a big talent who has had a positive impact in a Liverpool shirt, with Jurgen Klopp waxing lyrical over him during their time together:

“What a boy, what a story, what a player but he should have scored! He agrees probably. The speed he has is insane. He gets our football 100 per cent. We thought we saw that at Porto. He fits like a glove to our football and that’s really really special.”

If Diaz wants to leave, though, it is pointless keeping hold of an unhappy player, especially considering he is now 28 years of age, and can be cashed in on.

While the Colombian staying at Liverpool would be no bad thing at all, if they can get £65m for his services and sign a younger upgrade such as Real Madrid star Rodrygo, it could prove to be a masterstroke by the Reds.
